Destined for an Early Grave: Review

Destined for an Early Grave
(Night Huntress Series #4)
by Jeaniene Frost

Her deadly dreams leave her in grave danger

Since half-vampire Cat Crawfield and her undead lover Bones met six years ago, they've fought against the rogue undead, battled a vengeful Master vampire, and pledged their devotion with a blood bond. Now it's time for a vacation. But their hopes for a perfect Paris holiday are dashed when Cat awakes one night in terror. She's having visions of a vampire named Gregor who's more powerful than Bones and has ties to her past that even Cat herself didn't know about.

Gregor believes Cat is his and he won't stop until he has her. As the battle begins between the vamp who haunts her nightmares and the one who holds her heart, only Cat can break Gregor's hold over her. She'll need all the power she can summon in order to bring down the baddest bloodsucker she's ever faced . . . even if getting that power will result in an early grave.

If he catches me, I 'm dead.

Favorite Line(s): n/a

My Review: Let's just get right to the point here, I had a hard time with Cat not fighting as much in this book. I refuse to spoil books so I will leave it at that. Just missing her kick ass ways that you see a lot more of in the prior books in this series. Nonetheless Cat and Bones remain one of my top 5 leading lovers in books. I just threw the number 5 in there, don't even have a list ( I smell a furture blog post). I love that this series brings back all if not most of the characters you find in the books prior, I love seeing how each one of them develops. All the favorites are back in this one, some playing much smaller roles but still nice to see " friendly" faces. Seems the world is out to destroy their relationship, did it work this go around? Pick up the book to find out.

Highlander in Her Bed

by Allie Mackay

Synopsis:

Tour guide Mara MacDougall stops at a London antique shop-and spots perhaps the handsomest bed ever. Then she bumps into the handsomest man ever. Soon Mara can't forget the irresistible-if haughty-Highlander. Not even when she learns that she's inherited a Scottish castle.

Spectral Sir Alexander Douglas has hated the Clan MacDougall since he was a medieval knight and they tricked him into a curse-the curse of forever haunting the bed (the very one that Mara now owns) that was once intended for his would-be bride. But Mara makes him feel what no other MacDougall has-a passion that he never knew he'd missed.

This was a fun read, light and romantic as well. It was very mild in the steamy category and I felt it had some holes that needed to be filled. I finished this book, but I wasn't left wanting more or mourning the end of it. Good book, just don't expect the wow factor when reading it.

I am giving Highlander in Her bed....

Ghost of a Chance: Review

by Laura Peyton Roberts

Handsome.
Intense.
Devoted.
Dead.

Why is love so complicated?

"Melissa Soul is looking forward to a hot California summer. Her goals are basic....
1. Avoid babysitting
2. hang out at the mall/beach/wherever with her best friend Chloe
3. have a real conversation with Chloe's gorgeous brother, Chaz.

"But all that changes fast when Melissa meets James. He's funny. Mysterious. And very cute. The thing is... he's a ghost. and he's haunting Chloe's mansion.

" Is falling for a ghost crazy? maybe. But James is so real, Melissa almost forgets he's not human. She falls for him so hard that soon everything else slips away... including the possibility that James might be in love with Chloe.

What a tangle web we weave when it comes to teenage love! Or any love for that matter!

Melissa seems like an endearing girl and I found myself relating to her in some aspects of her life, but the story line for me was way to rushed. I didn't feel like there was enough time to connect with the main characters in this story, or give the concept of the story line a chance to shine. For me it was just to rushed, and not in the terms of it just being a fast read. The story line was there, but it was missing so much for me.

I am giving Ghost of a Chance 3 stars and it falls into these reading challenges...

Sex and the Psychic With: Review

(The Triplet Witch Trilogy, Book 1)
by Annette Blair

Synopsis:

Introducing the Cartwright sisters-Harmony, Destiny and Storm-triplets and unstoppable seductresses.

Harmony, the buyer for her sisters' vintage curio shop, can read objects and learn of their former owners. Now, a Celtic ring leads her to a castle on the coast of Massachusetts. King Paxton's money-pit is cursed, and he hopes that this leggy blonde can help him find peace with an angry ghost, a disgruntled renovation crew-and his own heart.

My Review:

I love, love, love Annette Blair lately. This is the 4th book I have read from her and I engulfed it. I love how her leading characters ( women) are all strong and confindent ladies. Something every women should be or strive to be.
This book has just the right amount of paranormal story line, with a hot headed romance as well. There are two more in this series and I am going to pick them up from the library today... so I am sure in the next few days you will be seeing my review on both of them.
Do yourself a favor and pick up this book!!

Sex and the Psychic Witch gets 5 stars from me and falls into these reading challenges...

Demons are a Ghoul's Best Friend: Review

(Ghost Hunter Mystery Series #2)
by Victoria Laurie

Synopsis:

Northelm Boarding School on Lake Placid has the worst bully of all-a demon by the name of Hatchet Jack. M.J. Holliday, along with her partners Gilley and the handsome Dr. Steven Sable, are ready to send him back to the portal from whence he came. The school's summer construction, an uncooperative dean, and the very tempting Dr. Delicious are all trying to distract M.J. from her ghost hunting. But with a demonic disturbance as great as Hatchet Jack, she must focus and show no mercyto send him to detention for an eternity-in hell.

I am so glad I decided to continue reading this series. The second in this series was way better than the first, and even down right creepy. Than again I am a chicken when it comes to stuff like this so it's not like it takes much.

Demons are a Ghoul's Best Friend, had me wondering up until almost the end, but than I was able to catch on to the story line. I am giving this book 4 stars!

This book falls into these reading challenges.....

The Haunted Queen Mary: Review

By Robert James Wlodarski
and
Anne Powell Wlodarski

" Welcome aboard the world's most haunted ship, the Queen mary, where you can step into the past, and easily imagine what it must have been like to sail aboard this luxurious ocean liner. Memories abount throughout the ship, and so do GHOSTS!

The Queen mary seems to be a gateway or door to another world where unexplainable things continue to happen with regularity. Whoever, or whatever lurks in the shadows, can be seen, heard, smelled and felt. For those who have witnessed the events, it is all too real. The ship represents a kind of "dead zone" that sends a shiver up people's spines, makes their hair stand on end, or causes themt o seek the safety of a well-lit room, and find comfort in other humans. These events continue to occur with regularity to people of all walks of life- skeptics and believers alike. As parapsychologists suggest, when there are so many memories and emotions, there is bound to be residual energy and a potential for hauntings".

Since I was born and raised, and continue to live here in Long Beach where the Queen Mary is docked, I have never known a time when I did not know about the ship and the stories that come along with it.

I remember once my mom took me, my brother and my Nena to the Queen Mary and we went on the haunted tour! No shame in my game, I cried, and my Nena laughed.

To this day I am not sure if I cried because I believed the stories or all the hype that was put into the stories. Would love to go back as an adult, of course the Punky Monkey's will be staying back.

A lot of the stories told in this book were ones I have heard before, but there was some new ones in it as well. I am still the most crept out when they talk about the nursery that was on the ship.
This book was a tad repetitive, but the pictures that they included in this book were amazing and eerie at the same time.

I am giving this book 4 stars. It is always fun to read up on the town you have been apart of your entire life.

The Haunted Queen Mary falls into these challenges....

Tell me about your hometown, or the town you live in now, anything believed to be haunted?
Until next time...

What's a Ghoul to Do? :Review

(Ghost Hunter Mystery Series #1)
by Victoria Laurie

Synopsis

M.J., her partner Gilley, and their client, the wealthy, de-lish Dr. Steven Sable, are at his family's lodge, where his grandfather allegedly jumped to his death from the roof-although Sable says it was foul play. But the patriarch's isn't the only ghost around. The place is lousy with souls, all with something to get off their ghoulish chests. Now M.J. will have to to quell the clamor-and listen for a voice with the answers.

I found this book to just be okay. Some parts seemed to drag, while the next few pages picked back up. I was hoping it would have been a fast read, and it just wasn't for me.

This book falls into these challenges....

Undead and Unworthy: Review

Undead and Unworthy by Mary Janice Davidson

" Betsy Taylor thought entering the world of the unded was a big adjustment. Being a new bride isn't much easier. The blush has only been on for two months, and Betsy has a lot to do: set up the new house, finish writing thank-you notes, and raise BabyJon, her half brother and legal ward. Just another happy American family adjusting to marital bliss.

" Betsy's husband, Sinclair, has been perusing the Book of the Dead, and Betsy visited by a ghost who's even more insufferable, stubborn, and annoying in death than she was in life. She not only blames Betsy for her condition but insists she fix it. It's all just a prelude to the fun and games awaiting Betsy and Sinclair when a pack of formerly feral vampires, hungry for blood and power, pays a visit to the happy couple.

WELCOME TO MARRIED LIFE, BETSY!

Okay, so I'll admit I was with the others ( you can find them anywhere) that was on the fence about the new art work on the cover of this book. It just doesn't match with the imagine I had of Queen Betsy. Mary Janice Davidson must have forseen her fans questioning the new cover work because she even writes about it at the start of the book. She says it has to do with the new direction she is taking the series. " Just as the first six books in tghe series were thier own story arc, so the next three books will be an arc.... think of this book as the first of a trilogy within a series".

Okay on to my review of this book, it was just alright! I had higher hopes for it. It still had the humor that the other books had, but it was just missing something. The others were faster reads, and I am shocked at the ending of this book and I of course can't go into more details because this blog will never ever spoil a book for the readers.

With all of that said, yes I will still read the other two that are coming out, because I would love to see this series through to the end.
I give this book 3 stars!

Until next time...
Happy Reading!

Undead and Uneasy: Review

Undead and Uneasy by Mary Janice Davidson is the 6th book in the series about Betsy, Queen of the Vampires.
" You are cordially invited to the wedding of Elizabeth Anne Taylor and Sinclair
607 Summit Avenue
Midnight
July 4,2007
RSVP by June 25, and don't be one of those jerks who doesn't RSVP and then shows up with three people. Seriously.

" In the days leading up to The Big Day, Vampire Queen Betsy Taylor seems to have a full house- and the wedding guests have yet to arrive. Along with her human buddies, there's a ghost, a werewolf, and a Fiend crashing at her place. And though her finance, Vampire King Eric Sinclair, convenient disappears when the conversation turns to seating charts and flower arrangements, he does manage to make his oh-so-sexy presence known at other moments.

" Betsy knows the next few weeks won't be smooth sailing- but she never expects just what's in store for her. Cold feet are no surprise, especially with an undead groom. But when Sinclair truly goes missing-and- not just to avoid wedding preparations- along with most of her friends and loved ones. Betsy is frantic. Alone and afraid for the fate of everyone she loves, Betsy can't trust anyone as she tries to find them and whoever is behind all the disappearance."

"And what happens next will shake the foundation of the vampire world forever in the best selling series that "breath[es] new life into conventional vampire lore".

In this book, Queen B has her skills as the Vampire Queen to the test, does she have what it takes...

Oh yes she does!! I was reading this book in the courtyard of my sons school waiting for him to get out of class, and I actually laughed out loud that another mom came up to me to see what I was reading! I love when a book actually gets you to laugh out loud, or cry... any kind of physical emotion... the best!

What will one girl do for loved ones.... pick up this book and find out! I give this book 4 1/2 stars... oohhhh that might be the highest rank I have given so far.

Until next time...
Happy Reading!

Undead and Unpopular: Review

" I tapped my pencil on the pad, trying to come up with a plan to tell my fiance, Eric Sinclair, that I had decided to completely give up the blood-drinking thing. I figured being the vampire queen had a few advantages- as it was, every vampire I'd ever known had to drink every day, even Eric. But I could go up to a week without so much as a drop of O-neg. So, in honor of my birthday, and being in this job for a year, I figured I'd give it up completely. I would be in a blood-free zone!"

" Vampire Queen Betsy Taylor already has plenty on her plate. For one thing, next week is her birthday- the big 3-1 in human years, and one in undead years. ( Yes, she bit the dust on her birthday last year). On top of that, she still has wedding plans to finalize- and it's not helping that the prospective groom is avoiding anything to do with it. And them there's her decision to stop drinking blood- something she has yet to share with Eric Sinclair, her fiance- who also happens to be the vampire king....
" So the last thing she wants to deal with is uninvited guests, even if they happen to be the powerful European vampires who have finally come to pay their respects the week before her birthday. Some of them don't want Betsy as their queen and will do anything to get rid of her. As if turning thirty last year ( not to mention dying) hadn't been traumatic enough. And trying to give up blood is making her really cranky... But who has time to sulk?"

Mary Janice Davidson is back in full swing in this book! I knew she could do it! This book was back to it's quicky self. Queen Betsy never has a good week, in fact with each passing week she has, she is certain it is the worst week of her undead life! I found myself feeling a lot of different emotions while reading this book, sad, amused and always entertained! I am giving this book 4 stars on my rating system, in case you haven't noticed, I don't give 5 stars very easily!
