One Grave at a Time by Jeaniene Frost {Review}

One Grave at a Time: A Night Huntress Novel

Mass Market Paperback, 358 pages
Published August 30th 2011 by Avon Books (Mm)

The grave is one wrong step away.

Having narrowly averted an (under)world war, Cat Crawfield wants nothing more than a little downtime with her vampire husband, Bones. Unfortunately, her gift from New Orleans' voodoo queen just keeps on giving--leading to a personal favor that sends them into battle once again, this time against a villainous spirit.

Centuries ago, Heinrich Kramer was a witch hunter. Now, every All Hallows Eve, he takes physical form to torture innocent women before burning them alive. This year, however, a determined Cat and Bones must risk all to send him back to the other side of eternity--forever. But how do you kill a killer who's already long dead?

First Line(s): "Donald Bartholomew Williams, get your ass back here now!"

Favorite Line(s): "I've watched you barely escape death several times, and each instance killed me a little inside. They may be dormant now, but we have enemies both cunning and cruel. Knowing you possess the power to defeat most of them doesn't threaten me, luv. It relieves me to my very core."

My Review: Where was the smoking hot sex scenes?!?!?

Okay, okay I know there is a lot more to the story than Bones and Cat going at it but I am not going to lie.... it's a big part for me!

Hi my name is Tena and I must be a horndog! I can handle that.

Okay, off to the actual review of One Grave at a Time... it was just alright for me. I am such a hufe fan of Jeaniene Frost and this series that I have such high hopes every time a new book comes out. Maybe too high? I found the plot to be clever and fresh ( at least to me) but I think I have hit a Paranormal wall. Maybe I have just moved on from this genre?

I would never take away from the hard work of an author and there are many awesome things about this book... the same amazing cast of characters are all back in this installment.

I just left this book not really having much to take with me. There is no love loss!

With that said I think I am going to take a few months off from this genre and start fresh in the new year!

This Side of the Grave by Jeaniene Frost {Review}

(Night Huntress Series #5)

Product Details:

Pub. Date: February 2011

Publisher: HarperCollins

Publishers Format: Mass Market Paperback ,

384pp

Synopsis:

Danger waits on both sides of the grave. Half-vampire Cat Crawfield and her vampire husband Bones have fought for their lives, as well as for their relationship. But just when they've triumphed over the latest battle, Cat's new and unexpected abilities threaten to upset a long-standing balance . . . With the mysterious disappearance of vampires, rumors abound that a species war is brewing. A zealot is inciting tensions between the vampires and ghouls, and if these two powerful groups clash, innocent mortals could become collateral damage. Now Cat and Bones are forced to seek help from a dangerous "ally"—the ghoul queen of New Orleans herself. But the price of her assistance may prove more treacherous than even the threat of a supernatural war . . . to say nothing of the repercussions Cat never imagined.

First Line(s): The vampire pulled on the chains restraining him to the cave wall.

Favorite Quote(s): "I love your hands,' he sighed. 'You think I look like an angel? Well, Kitten, your hands are my heaven and your eyes are my home.'" (Bones)"

My Review: Short and sweet because I am certain the baby is about to wake up and I am determined to hammer out this review. I liked it! Didn't hate it, but was able to put it down, which I was not able to do with the other books. I adore Cat and Bones and they remain one of my top 5 couples but this book lacked the humor and steam I have grown use to in the past. With that said I look forward to reading the next book in this series and seeing where my favorite characters go.

My Rating: Solid 3 stars

Destined for an Early Grave: Review

Destined for an Early Grave
(Night Huntress Series #4)
by Jeaniene Frost

Her deadly dreams leave her in grave danger

Since half-vampire Cat Crawfield and her undead lover Bones met six years ago, they've fought against the rogue undead, battled a vengeful Master vampire, and pledged their devotion with a blood bond. Now it's time for a vacation. But their hopes for a perfect Paris holiday are dashed when Cat awakes one night in terror. She's having visions of a vampire named Gregor who's more powerful than Bones and has ties to her past that even Cat herself didn't know about.

Gregor believes Cat is his and he won't stop until he has her. As the battle begins between the vamp who haunts her nightmares and the one who holds her heart, only Cat can break Gregor's hold over her. She'll need all the power she can summon in order to bring down the baddest bloodsucker she's ever faced . . . even if getting that power will result in an early grave.

If he catches me, I 'm dead.

Favorite Line(s): n/a

My Review: Let's just get right to the point here, I had a hard time with Cat not fighting as much in this book. I refuse to spoil books so I will leave it at that. Just missing her kick ass ways that you see a lot more of in the prior books in this series. Nonetheless Cat and Bones remain one of my top 5 leading lovers in books. I just threw the number 5 in there, don't even have a list ( I smell a furture blog post). I love that this series brings back all if not most of the characters you find in the books prior, I love seeing how each one of them develops. All the favorites are back in this one, some playing much smaller roles but still nice to see " friendly" faces. Seems the world is out to destroy their relationship, did it work this go around? Pick up the book to find out.

At Grave's End: Review

At Grave's End
(Night Huntress Series #3)
by Jeaniene Frost

Some things won't stay buried . . . at grave's end

It should be the best time of half-vampire Cat Crawfield's life. With her undead lover Bones at her side, she's successfully protected mortals from the rogue undead. But though Cat's worn disguise after disguise to keep her true identity a secret from the brazen bloodsuckers, her cover's finally been blown, placing her in terrible danger.

As if that wasn't enough, a woman from Bones's past is determined to bury him once and for all. Caught in the crosshairs of a vengeful vamp, yet determined to help Bones stop a lethal magic from being unleashed, Cat's about to learn the true meaning of bad blood. And the tricks she's learned as a special agent won't help her. She will need to fully embrace her vampire instincts in order to save herself—and Bones—from a fate worse than the grave.

First Line: The man smiled and I let my gaze linger over his face.

Favorite Line(s): n/a

My Review: At Grave's End does not fail the reader when it comes to action! This book is filled the rim with action. Makes me totally think I can be Cat... okay it is nice to have dreams... more like fantasies! Never a dull moment in the life of Cat and Bones, these two might want to schedule in a long over due vacation. The one thing this book is lacking from the other two is the hot love scenes, dare I say this one was mild compared to the other two.

One Foot in the Grave

One Foot in the Grave
(Night Huntress Series #2)
by Jeaniene Frost

You can run from the grave, but you can't hide . . .
Half-vampire Cat Crawfield is now Special Agent Cat Crawfield, working for the government to rid the world of the rogue undead. She's still using everything Bones, her sexy and dangerous ex, taught her, but when Cat is targeted for assassination, the only man who can help her is the vampire she left behind.

Being around him awakens all her emotions, from the adrenaline kick of slaying vamps side by side to the reckless passion that consumed them. But a price on her head—wanted: dead or half-alive—means her survival depends on teaming up with Bones. And no matter how hard she tries to keep things professional between them, she'll find that desire lasts forever . . . and that Bones won't let her get away again.

Favorite Line(s): n/a

First Line: I waited outside the large, four story home in Manhasset that was owned by a Mr. Liam Flannery.

My Review: This follow up in the series did not fail! My boyfriends back and your gonna be in trouble... ha ha ha! Not that Cat needs any help from her man, but they do make for a steamy read. I love the chemisty between these two characters. The story line continues to flow smoothy in this series, never a dull or predictable moment.

If you look at hte lower left hand side of my tool bar you will see I joined a new club after reading this book. Do you see it? That's right I am not a proud member of Bones is mine club! I love when I find me a new book boyfriend. This crazy book slut lives for it!

Halfway to the Grave

Halfway to the Grave
(Night Huntress Series #1)
by Jeaniene Frost

Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father—the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unholy partnership.
In exchange for finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner—are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn't have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her newfound status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side . . . and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.

Favorite Line(s): n/a

First Line: I stiffened at the red and blue lights flashing behind me, because there was no way I could explain what was in the back of my truck.

My Review: A must read for anyone! I know a lot of my fellow book bloggers have already read this series and I am ashamed it as taken me so long to read this book. I'm not worthy! I think the idea that Cat is half human and half vampire makes for a great story line and I can't wait to see what happens next for her. I also can see why so many of my fellow book bloggers has a thing for Bones... hott! This book is a fast read, but it is more than that... it has strong characters that have plenty of room for growth. This should be a fun adventure, going to start the second book this afternoon.
