Along Came Trouble by Ruthie Knox { Review }

Along Came Trouble
{ Camelot Series #2}
by Ruthie Knox

Kindle Edition
Published March 11th 2013 by Loveswept
Ruthie Knox’s Camelot series continues in this sizzling eBook original novel, featuring two headstrong souls who bump heads—and bodies—as temptation and lust bring nothing but delicious trouble.
An accomplished lawyer and driven single mother, Ellen Callahan isn’t looking for any help. She’s doing just fine on her own. So Ellen’s more than a little peeved when her brother, an international pop star, hires a security guard to protect her from a prying press that will stop at nothing to dig up dirt on him. But when the tanned and toned Caleb Clark shows up at her door, Ellen might just have to plead the fifth.

Back home after a deployment in Iraq and looking for work as a civilian, Caleb signs on as Ellen’s bodyguard. After combat in the hot desert sun, this job should be a breeze. But guarding the willful beauty is harder than he imagined—and Caleb can’t resist the temptation to mix business with pleasure. With their desires growing more undeniable by the day, Ellen and Caleb give in to an evening of steamy passion. But will they ever be able to share more than just a one-night stand?

First Line(s):  "Get out of my yard!" Ellen shouted.

Favorite Line(s): n/a

My Thoughts:  Along Came Trouble is the second book in Ruthie Knox's Camelot series. If you have not read How to Misbehave you totally should but fear not it won't make it hard to follow Along Came Trouble. The two books stand alone with no mention of the other characters in the books.

Along Came Trouble is my second book read by Ruthie Knox and she is fastly becoming a go to read for me. In fact I have a few of her books waiting for me on my Kindle as I write this review.

I loved Ellen and her fierce loyalty to her family and her beliefs, as well as her need to stand on her own two feet after divorcing her ass of a husband.

Caleb doesn't want to crush Ellen's spirit or change her ways, he just wants to do his job of protecting her but she becomes more than a job to him. He felt something for her from the first time he met her.

I had a hard go at first getting into this book but once I did it was a real gem. I look forward to seeing where Ruthie Knox takes us next in the Camelot series. If your looking for a fun, witty, sexy and quirky series to start... look no farther than the Camelot Series.

Portrait of a Scandal by Danielle Lisle { Review}

Portrait of a Scandal
{ Scandals of Nobility #1}
by Danielle Lisle

ebook, 145 pages
Published December 3rd 2012 by
Total-E-Bound Publishing

Book one in the Scandals of Nobility Series

The one man she desires is the one man she can never marry, for if he knew the truth about her scandalous past, he would never want her.

During a time when women are required to be appealing, well mannered, but never opinionated, Lady Nellie struggles to find her place. She believes in speaking her mind, not caring if her words offend others, or how unladylike she seems. Yet one man, whom she primarily despises, finds her sharp tongue intriguing rather than uncivil.

Lord Sterling is heir to a dukedom and it is time he is married, yet all the girls of the season are dull and lifeless, to his mind. Well, all apart from Lady Nellie. Her flowered words are laced with insults—insults that, rather than offending him, set his mind into a flutter, wondering if the passion in her voice will be as strong in the bedroom.

Reader Advisory: This book contains a MFM ménage scene with a male who is a stranger to the heroine (which includes double penetration), and scenes of anal sex.

First Line(s): The one man she desires is the one man she can never marry, for if he knew the truth about her scandalous past, he would despise her.

Favorite Line(s): He sighed. " My dear, I do not care for this place. I miss Fleurit Park. It is where my best memories reside. Where your mother and I grew to lover each other and where you were created and born. I have watched my baby girl grow into a woman, and now I need to let her spread her wings."

and

..." You are my wife, my love and the reason I live now."..

My Review: I adored the character Nellie. She was loyal to her family, did what she felt needed to be done to protect her family but she still had the sweet nature to know in the process she may have wronged a few people and the guilt kept her real to me.

Thomas was everything one looks for in her leading Rake! He was charming, demanding and the way he is described, no doubt a looker.

I think this book had the perfect amount of steam and romance in it to make it a perfect read for any afternoon. A real fast read.

When I got Portrait of a Scandal I got it free on Amazon. Now it's listed for $0.99 and worth every penny.

Gone Country by Lorelei James { Review }

Gone Country
{ Rough Rider Series #14}
by Lorelei James

Kindle Edition,
Published December 11th 2012 by Samhain Publishing, Ltd.

She’s a little bit country, and he’s…not.

Arizona businessman and long-lost McKay love child Gavin Daniels has been awarded sole custody of his teenage daughter Sierra for one year. In order to steer Sierra back on track after a brush with the law, he pulls up stakes and heads to Wyoming, looking for support from his ranching family...even if he isn’t sure where they fit in the McKay dynamic. He’s prepared for every contingency with the move: the less-than-enthusiastic response from his daughter, learning to run his corporation remotely, but he’s thrown for a loop when his new housemate, Rielle, is a whole lot sexier, funnier and sassier than he remembered.

Rielle Wetzler has finally overcome the stigma of having hippie parents and being a young single mother. In the two years since she sold her ailing B&B to Gavin Daniels, she’s become financially stable running the homespun businesses she loves. But now Gavin is in Sundance to claim the house that’s rightfully his. Although Rielle knew this day would come, she isn’t prepared to leave the home she built for herself and her now-grown daughter. And to further complicate matters, her long-dormant libido is definitely not ready to live with this newly buff Gavin—who isn’t a cowboy, but has the take-charge attitude to prove he’s all McKay.

Sharing a roof, their troubles and their triumphs is too much temptation, and before long, Gavin and Rielle are sharing a bed. But sharing their hearts and lives forever? That’s a whole ’nother ball of wax.

Warning: Contains a feisty, independent heroine who doesn’t need a man to take care of her needs outside the bedroom and a sweet, sexy and bossy hero who’s up to the challenge of proving her wrong

First Line(s): " Sierra Daniels. Please stand."

Favorite Line(s): "Bullshit," Charlie spat. "I've been married to Vi thirty-eight years and not once, even when we hit rough patches, did I consider climbing into another woman's bed. A man loves a woman, he loves her. Period. He cares for her and he protects her. Not because that's his job but because he oughta want to."

and

"...Like I said, my dad had a lot of great qualities, but he wasn't much of a family man."

"Then in my opinion, he wasn't much of a man," Charlie said.

My Review: Gone Country was lacking missing a lot of the steamy hot sex scenes we have come to expect for the Rough Rider series. Don't get me wrong the book was hot in parts but over all I would use the word sweet for it's content.

I enjoyed the more adult relationship between Rielle and Gavin. They both were/are single parents of grown ( mostly) girls and they never allowed themselves to be first. First spot always went to their girls. Now that the girls are grown and Gavin is back in Wyoming could there be something more? Can they allow themselves to be first in their own lives?

These two were endearing and at times I felt my heart strings being torn in all kinds of directions. Gone Country takes you on a wild roller coaster throughout the story, one you are sad to see end.

Lorelei James remains one of my go to authors. Is it June yet? That is when Redneck Romeo comes out.. Dalton's story!

Tucker's Claim by Sarah McCarty { Review }

Tucker's Claim
{ Hell's Eight #3 }
by Sarah McCarty

Kindle Edition, 352 pages
Published March 1st 2011 by HQN Books

He is everything her body craves...

and everything her faith denies

Tucker McCade has known violence his whole life: orphaned in a massacre, abused as a "half-breed" child, trained as a ruthless Texas Ranger, he's learned the hard way that might makes right.

So even he is shocked when he falls for Sallie Mae Reynolds, a Quaker nurse. Unable to resist Tucker's charm, character and chiseled body, she throws herself into their torrid affair, indulging every one of her wildest sexual fantasies. Tucker's occupation, however, is the one thing about him she can't embrace. A staunch pacifist, Sallie Mae can't understand how his strong, caressing hand can clench in fury or pull a trigger to take a life. In this lawless land, Tucker knows you have to fight to survive. But when Sallie Mae becomes pregnant, he's willing to do whatever it takes to have his family — including hanging up his guns.

Every night they spend together exploring new heights of ecstasy binds them ever closer, slowly erasing their differences…until the day Tucker's past comes calling, precipitating an explosive showdown between her faith, his promise and the need for revenge...

First Line(s): Music drifted out of the gaily decorated church into the humid night air, wrapping around Sally  Mae in a breath of lilting joy.

Favorite Line(s): "He thinks you cured him of a limp willy?"

and
She closed her eyes. Pissant. He'd called a man of God a pissant.

My Review: Oh man did this book drag on way to much the first few chapters. If I believed in giving up on a book earlier than I do this book would have never been finished. With that said I am so glad I kept at it because it turned into being a fantastic story that gave you steamy love scenes and an endearing relationship between Tucker and Sally Mae. You even got some action ( not the bedroom kind) in this book. Tucker's Claim really does have it all. So promise me, if ( when!) you pick this book up to read, stick with it and just push through the first few chapters, you won't be sorry!

Until There Was You by Jessica Scott {Review}

Until There Was You
{ Coming Home #2}
by Jessica Scott

Kindle Edition, 230 pages
Published October 8th 2012 by A Loveswept Contemporary Military Romance

A by-the-book captain with a West Point background, Evan Loehr refuses to mix business with pleasure—except for an unguarded instance years ago when he succumbed to the deep sensuality of redheaded beauty Claire Montoya. Since that brief lapse in judgment, Evan has been at odds with her. But when he is asked to train a combat team alongside Claire, battle-hardened Evan is in for the fight of his life.

Strong, gutsy, and loyal, Captain Claire Montoya has worked hard to achieve her high military rank. In Evan Loehr, Claire sees a spoiled commander who puts the rules before everything else—including his people. Army orders force them together and Claire soon discovers that there is more to Evan than meets the eye. He too has dark secrets and deep longings. For all their differences, Evan and Claire share two crucial passions: their country and each other.

First Line(s): "So this is hell? Very scenic."

Favorite Line(s): “I feel like I should have a formation and make the plantoon sergeants demonstrate how to put a condom on the correct way."

My Review: Not as easy to read as the first story in the series but good just the same. Until There Was You seemed a tad slow at times and stuck!
About 1/2 way ( maybe 3/4) it turned around for me and I was so glad I saw it through to the end!

If you love to read about troubled souls in an uniform than this is the book for you!

Under the Mistletoe by Jill Shalvis { Review }

Under The Mistletoe
( Lucky Harbor #6.5}
by Jill Shalvis

Kindle Edition, Short story, 55 pages
Published December 4th 2012 by Grand Central Publishing

JUST ONE MORE KISS

There's no place like home for the holidays. And the Lucky Harbor Bed & Breakfast is bursting with festive lights and good cheer. But for Mia, Christmas is turning out to be anything other than merry and bright. Her recent break-up with her boyfriend Nick has made her return bittersweet. But then a surprise arrives, when Nick follows her to town bearing gifts-and asking for forgiveness.

Nick grew up without a family of his own so he's overwhelmed by the love that Mia receives from all her relatives, gathered together to celebrate the season. Under their watchful eyes, Nick finds earning back her trust the hardest thing he's ever had to do. If he succeeds, he will receive the greatest gift of all, Mia's love for a lifetime.     Under the Mistletoe (Lucky Harbor, #6.5)

 First Lines: Holding on to her hat, Mia ran along the streets on her killer four-inch red heels, her matching red skirt ruffling in the breeze.

Favorite Line(s): “Try asking sometime. Not all women will stand for that 50 Shades crap, you know.”

My Review: Too short!! Since Jill Shalvis is one of my go to authors it pains me when her books don't go on forever.

What a fun treat it was to go back and get Mia's story after she was introduced in book number 2 ( I believe this was the book?). I think Mia and Nick's story needed a bit more story line to really feel like I connected to them. With that being said it's hard to say what I loved about this book... no that's a lie, loved that it was a book by Jill ( and that is enough for me :D). I have a few things that bugged me but I think that if there was room for more depth it would have worked itself out. That's the problem with novella's, they tend to leave you with more questions then if you didn't read up on the characters at all!
