The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins {Review}

The Hunger Games
{ The Hunger Games Series #1}
by Suzanne Collins

In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before—and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that will weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

First Line: When I wake up, the other side of the bed is cold.

My Review: It took me a long time to pick up this book because I just didn't think it was going to be my cup of tea. After reading it, I am going to stand by that statement BUT I did like it. It was a fast read and it held my attention ( although parts of it were predictable). When I read the last sentence it left me wanting to read the next book so I guess that means Suzanne Collins did her job. I am glad I stepped out of my normal comfort zone to try something new. With that said until I get my hands on the 2nd book in the series I NEED to pick up a romance book stat!! HA HA HA!
Hoping to see the movie soon, maybe that will help me connect a tad bit more with the characters and storyline.

My Rating:Photobucket
