Hi Tena. I just read Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. It takes place in the 1700's and was fabulous. Bloggers keep on telling me her entire series is really fantastic.
Also all of Philippa Greggory's books are great too. I love historical fiction. Have fun with it!
So I haven't read any of those! LoL! But I love Ann Rinaldi's work. She writes fiction stories based on actual historical events. It's hard to pick just one or three of hers, because they are all so great!
Hey Tena, Well I have to say you came to my all time favourite Genre. History. And here are some of my all time favs.
Katherine by Anya Seyton, a great fictional telling of the real life romance between John of Gaunt and his mistress (later wife) Katherine Swynford. Should also note, that the Tudor thing came about with them *hehe*
The Other Bolyen Girl by Phillipa Gregory, GREAT better than the film, really you cant go wrong with anything by her.
and absouletly anything by Alison Weir, she has fiction and non, all in Tudor time. Wonderful style. Hope it helps :o)
I have to agree on 'Outlander'. it is a wonderful book.
The other two are: Margaret George's 'Mary, Queen of Scots' and Sena Jeter Naslund's 'Ahab's Wife'. Both are amazing. The firts one's title speaks for itself anf the second one is written from a perspective of the Moby Dick's captain's young wife. You'll actually start to like Ahab more after it.

1. The Queen's Fool by Philippa Gregory
2. Into the Wilderness by Sara Donati
3. On a Highland Shore by Kathleen Givens
It's hard to limit it to three and I agree with previous comments about the Outlander series I have read 5 so far!
I really like Philippa Gregory. I just read The Virgins Lover and really enjoyed it.
