Quinn "Q" Boothroyd is a young British lawyer married to an American and living in New York City. She's checked off most of the boxes on her "Modern Woman's List of Things to Do Before Hitting 30," and her busy working life has been relatively painless. But when her doctor tells her she must spend the last three months of her pregnancy lying in bed, Q is thrown into a tailspin. Initially bored and frustrated, Q soon fills her days by trying to reconnect with her workaholic husband, provide legal advice for her sweet Greek neighbor, forge new emotional bonds with her mother and sisters, and figure out who will keep her stocked up in cookies and sandwiches.

Q experiences adventures on the couch she never would have encountered in the law firm and learns a lot about herself and what she wants out of life—and above all, about the little one growing inside her.

This story is told in the form of Q's journal when she finds out she needs to go on bed rest. This book was cute and good, but not much else can be said about it. I would not suggest reading this book if you were actually on bed rest, I am sure it would only make the situation worse. I kept waiting to feel more for these characters and it never came.

The Red Tent

The red tent is the place where women gathered during their cycles of birthing, menses, and even illness. Like the conversations and mysteries held within this feminine tent, this sweeping piece of fiction offers an insider's look at the daily life of a biblical sorority of mothers and wives and their one and only daughter, Dinah. Told in the voice of Jacob's daughter Dinah (who only received a glimpse of recognition in the Book of Genesis), we are privy to the fascinating feminine characters who bled within the red tent. In a confiding and poetic voice, Dinah whispers stories of her four mothers, Rachel, Leah, Zilpah, and Bilhah--all wives to Jacob, and each one embodying unique feminine traits. As she reveals these sensual and emotionally charged stories we learn of birthing miracles, slaves, artisans, household gods, and sisterhood secrets. Eventually Dinah delves into her own saga of betrayals, grief, and a call to midwifery.

"Like any sisters who live together and share a husband, my mother and aunties spun a sticky web of loyalties and grudges," Anita Diamant writes in the voice of Dinah. "They traded secrets like bracelets, and these were handed down to me the only surviving girl. They told me things I was too young to hear. They held my face between their hands and made me swear to remember."

A compelling story unlike any I have read before! But, yes there is a but... I can see this book being a hint or miss with some. Although I found it to be compelling, there were parts of the book where I had to fight to not put it down. I think it is one of those books where you either love it or hate it!

I am giving The Red Tent, gosh this is hard.... 3 stars( this book made me wish I gave out half stars), and it falls into these reading challenges...

The Good Sister

Synopsis:

What begins as a rivalry between sisters becomes a chilling novel of psychological suspense in which one sister find herself aloneon a yacht at sea, forced to defend herself from a terrifying killer in league with her sister. But which sister?

My Review:

This book kept me in suspense almost the entire way. It was a good read, but at times I found myself forcing to pick it up. Not entirely sure if that was the books fault or me just being super tired lately ( baking a new Punky Monkey will do that to a mama). This was the first book I have read of Diana Diamond's and I just might go look around Amazon to see what else she has to offer.

The Good Sister get's a solid 3 stars from me

Evernight

Evernight by Claudia Gray

I read this book for the " What's in a Name" challenge, but later found out it could also fall into the "Youth" Challenge and the "999" challenge. HA HA HA!

"Raquel whispered, " Don't you ever feel like there's something at this school that's....evil?" Her voice shook. " Do you believe in real evil?". Nobody had ever asked me that, but I knew the answer, " Yeah I do."

"Bianca wants to escape. She's been uprooted from her small hometown and enrolled at Evernight Academy, an eerie Gothic boarding school where the students are somehow too perfect: smart, sleek and almost predatory. Bianca knows she doesn't fit in.

" The she meets Lucas. He's not the " Evernight type" either, abd ge kujes ut tgat way, Lucas ignores the rules, stands up to the snobs, and warns Bianca to be careful- even when it comes to caring about him.

" I couldn't stand it if they took it out on you", he tells Biance, " and eventually they would."

" But the connection between Bianca and Lucas can't be denies. Bianca will risk anything to be with Lucas, but dark secrets are fated to tear them apart... and to make Bianca question everything she's ever believed."

I love how fast I can read a teen/young adult book, I am not sure why that is, maybe me being stuck as a 18 year old in my head?!?!? Evernight was an extremely fast read, even at 327 pages. This book has great twists in it's story. I will give this book 4 stars!!
