Highlander Untamed: Review

Highlander Untamed
by Monica McCarty
Synopsis:

Rory MacLeod is a bold and powerful Highland Chief with only one allegiance–to his clan. He vows revenge against the rival MacDonald clan, though duty demands a handfast marriage to Isabel MacDonald–a bride he does not want and has no intention of keeping. But Rory couldn’t have anticipated the captivating woman who challenges his steely control, and unleashes the untamed passion simmering beneath his fierce exterior.

Blessed with incomparable beauty, Isabel MacDonald is prepared to use every means possible–including seduction–to uncover her husband’s most guarded secrets. Instead Rory awakens Isabel’s deepest desires and her sweetest fantasies. Now Isabel has found the happiness she’s always dreamed of with the very man she must betray, and discovers that passion can be far more dangerous than revenge.

First Line(s): The ground shook with heavy pounding of hooves as the score of warriors approached Dunscaith Castle.

My Review: This story takes on a lot of qualities of Romeo and Juliet ( and is even qouted at the start of the book). I loved how the two characters played so well of each other. Rory is the perfect hero figure in a romance story and Isabel is no damsel in distress, she can stand her own and as the sass to prove it!

Awakened by a Kiss: Review

Awakened by a Kiss
by Lila DiPasqua
Synopsis:

Three sexy stories based on the fairytales of Sleeping Beauty, Little Red Riding Hood, and Puss in Boots.

Once upon a salacious time, when fairy tales were written...

Sleeping Beau: Five years ago, notorious rake Adrien d'Aspe, Marquis de Beaulain, was awakened by a sensuous kiss-and experienced a night of raw ecstasy that was branded into his memory. Years later, he spots his mysterious seductress-and this time, he has no intention of letting her go...

Little Red Writing: Nicolas de Savignac, Comte de Lambelle, has been assigned by the King to uncover the secret identity of the author writing scandalous stories about powerful courtiers. He never expected his investigation would lead to his grandmother's house, or to a ravishing woman who would stir his deepest hunger...

Bewitching in Boots: Elisabeth de Roussel, daughter of the King, is accustomed to getting what she wants-and she wants Tristan de Tiersonnier, Comte de Saint-Marcel, an ex-commander of the King's private Guard. A recent injury has forced Tristan to leave his distinguished position, but Elisabeth is determined to make him see he's every bit the man he once was-and more than man enough for her...

First Line(s): " Will you do it, Adrien? Say yes. You simply must.

My Review: This book had a perfect balance of strong characters and heat! A fun twist of "fairy tales" you grew up reading, but trust me this a book just for you, store it in your nightstand and have pleasant dreams the whole night through. I look forward to reading the next book that is coming out by Lila DiPasqua.

Geek Charming: Review

Geek Charming
by Robin Palmer
Synopsis:

Dylan Shoenfield is the princess of L.A.'s posh Castle Heights High. She has the coolest boyfriend, the most popular friends, and a brand-new "it" bag that everyone covets. But when she accidentally tosses her bag into a fountain, this princess comes face-to-face with her own personal frog: selfprofessed film geek Josh Rosen. In return for rescuing Dylan's bag, Josh convinces Dylan to let him film her for his documentary on high school popularity. Reluctantly, Dylan lets F-list Josh into her A-list world, and is shocked to realize that sometimes nerds can be pretty cool. But when Dylan's so-called prince charming of a boyfriend dumps her flat, her life and her social status comes to a crashing halt. Can Dylan with Josh's help pull the pieces together to create her own happily-ever-after?

First Line: One day I was watching Oprah, waiting for her to get to her "Favorite Things for Spring" segment ( she has the cutest taste in accessories), I heard this self-help guru guy say that teh word crisis in Chinese is actually two words: danger and opportunity.

My Review: For some reason the movie Can't Buy Me Love was with me the whole time I was reading this book. This book did a really good job on nailing what life is like for everyone in High School! The ups, the downs and everything in between. Don't judge that book by the cover because you never know what you might get, same can be said for your fellow student ( mankind).

Cindy Ella: Review

Cindy Ella
by Robin Palmer

Synopsis

Prom fever has infected LA especially Cindy's two annoying stepsisters, and her overly Botoxed stepmother. Cindy seems to be the only one immune to it all. But her anti-prom letter in the school newspaper does more to turn Cindy into Queen of the Freaks than close the gap between the popular kids and the rest of the students. Everyone thinks she's committed social suicide, except for her two best friends, the yoga goddess India and John Hughes worshipping Malcolm, and shockingly, the most popular senior at Castle Heights High and Cindy's crush, Adam Silver. Suddenly Cindy starts to think that maybe her social life could have a happily ever after. But there's still the rest of the school to deal with. With a little bit of help from an unexpected source and a fabulous pair of heels, Cindy realizes that she still has a chance at a happily ever after.

First Line: To the Editor:
For the two years that I've been a student at Castle Heights, I've been a very loyal reader of the Courier, your so-called newspaper, even though you have refused to print any of my letters.

My Review: It was a cute and fast read, but a tad to predictable. Of course one can be surprised by this, you can re-tell a story 101 times but the ending stays the same. Just the same I can check another book off of a challenge, actually a few challenges... score!

Once Upon A Time: 2010 Reading Challenge

This challenge is quite simple..... read the fairy tales you grew up reading but from another view than Disney's version. There are so many great fairy tale books out there, that might take the same story we know but with an added twist.

These books can be Young Adult, Romance, Erotic, e-books, audio books.... your only limited by your own imagination.

I am going to make this an easy challenge to finish, and say the goal is to read at least 5 books, again if you want to go big or go home... read more!

The time frame for this challenge will be January 1, 2010- December 31, 2010. Plenty of time. Please do not start this challenge before the time, and don't use books you have already read.

  1. Cindy Ella- Robin Palmer
  2. Geek Charming- Robin Palmer
  3. Awakened by a Kiss- Lila DiPasqua
  4. Highlander Untamed- Monica McCarty

( I did a search via google to see if another reading challenge like this was going on, and I found challenges similar but they took place in 2007 or 2008. I do not wish to step on toes so if you are already hosting something like this, please email me privately.)

Until next time...

An Offer From A Gentleman

An Offer From A Gentleman
( 3rd in series)
by Julia Quinn

Sophie Beckett never dreamed she'd be able to sneak into Lady Bridgerton's famed masquerade ball- or that " Prince Charming" would be waiting there for her! Though the daughter of an earl, Sophie has been relegated to the role of servant by her disdainful stepmother. But now, spinning in the strong arms of the debonair and devastatingly handsome Benedict Bridgerton, she feels like royalty. Alas, she knows all enchantments must end when the clock strikes midnight.

Who was the extraordinary woman? Ever since that magical night, a radiant vision in silver has blinder Benedict to the attractions of any other- except, perhaps, this alluring and oddly familiar beauty dressed in housemaid's garb whom he feels compelled to rescue from a most disagreeable situation. he has sworn to find and wed his mystery miss, nut this breathtaking maid makes him weak with wanting her. Yet, if he offers her his heart, will Benedict sacrifice his only change for a fairy take love?

First Line: Everyone knew that Sophie Beckett was a bastard.

Favorite Line(s): " You are the reason I exist," she said softly, " the very reason I was born."

My Review: Oh man I am going to be paying for this come morning, or wait it is morning. I just spent the whole evening and well into the morning reading this book. Do you really need to know what I thought of this book... ha ha ha! Julia Quinn is a mastermind! Cindrella meets the cold hard reality of life... perfection! This is not your Disney Cindrella story at all, this one is the Cindrella story for the older crowd. I am torn between wanting a Highlander for a fictional boyfriend or one of the steamy, hunky Bridgerton boys. Grr baby grr!
